Independent technical project management for owners and yards

Twenty years of shipyard project leadership.

Fredrik Hjulfors on deck during a build inspection

About Fredrik

Shipyard floors, sea trials, and 6am flights to the boat.

Fredrik Hjulfors started out doing composite layup and systems installation at Nautor Swan, then moved into project management at Baltic Yachts and OQS — and ran two companies of his own along the way. He knows the yards from the inside, which is why problems get spotted early.

Core Capabilities

for owners and for yards
01

Yard-Side Package Management

For when a build package needs someone to actually run it, not just watch it happen.

  • Full responsibility for delivering build packages inside active shipyards.
  • Planning how different trades work together — hull structure, deck machinery, joinery, and tightly packed mechanical systems.
  • Getting schedules back on track, keeping subcontractors accountable, and signing off production milestones.
  • Running commissioning through to Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials (HAT/SAT).
02

3D Audit & Buildability Verification

For catching expensive problems on a drawing, before they're built into the boat.

  • Reviewing 3D CAD and engineering models the way a boatbuilder would, not just an engineer.
  • Catching pipe, duct, and cable-tray clashes before lamination starts, not after.
  • Making sure there's real access to valves, pumps, filters, and major machinery once it's installed.
  • Checking variation orders against the contract, so scope and cost changes are agreed before the work starts.
03

Technical Dispute & Claim Resolution

For when something's gone wrong and you need a straight technical answer, not a legal fight.

  • On-site, fact-based analysis of structural, fairing, coating, and mechanical failures.
  • Clear, evidence-based reporting when owner and yard disagree, or when an insurance claim is on the table.
  • An honest read on poor workmanship, who's responsible for delays, and any changes made without sign-off.
  • Acting as the technical go-between for owner or yard, keeping things out of a legal standoff.
04

Warranty Oversight & Tooling Logistics

For defects that keep coming back, and warranty claims that need someone chasing them to the end.

  • Fixing defects wherever they turn up, running warranty work, and getting to the root cause, not just the symptom.
  • A track record across top-tier builds, including years of warranty work on large custom sailing yachts.
  • Real shop-floor experience with carbon pre-preg, vacuum infusion, and multi-axis CNC tooling.
  • Ready to mobilise fast for shipyard or dockside emergencies.
Independent, always

No commissions from yards, designers, or suppliers, whichever side of the table you're on. When retained by an owner, every recommendation is made in the owner's interest, not for a referral fee.

Swan 82 Ananda under sail
Owner's PM & Technical Advisory · Major Refit · Ongoing

Swan 82 — Ananda

Role: Owner's PM & Technical Advisor (current, BA-Solutions)

Representing the owner as Project Manager and technical advisor through a major refit in Badalona, Spain. Working closely with the boat's captain and engineer day to day — trade staffing and workshop teams stay the yard's responsibility. The focus: making sure the quality is right and the right things get fixed, so the refit holds up to the owner's wishes for years to come, not just the punch list in front of us.

Ocean Explorer 72 — Hull 02

Role: Technical Project Manager (Ocean Quality Systems)

Ran the build of a 72-foot carbon catamaran from structural assembly through commissioning and sea trials — coordinating in-house laminators and joiners with external mechanical and systems contractors, on a tight delivery schedule.

Baltic 85 — Mini Y

Role: Shipyard Project Manager (Baltic Yachts)

Ran the yard-side build of a custom high-performance carbon sloop — production, trade sequencing, and technical execution. Kept a tight handle on weight targets, fitting complex systems into a small space, class compliance, and commissioning through to handover.
